Digitalizing Conservation: Utilizing Geo-Tagging for Biodiversity Monitoring in Kotabaru by TIS Energy
News 26 June 2026
As part of its commitment to responsible environmental management and sustainable operational practices, TIS Energy, the Sebuku Production Sharing Contract (PSC) Contractor, continues to strengthen biodiversity conservation efforts through the implementation of geo-tagging methods for native Kalimantan plant species within the company’s operational area under its Community Development Program (PPM).
This initiative was carried out in Sarang Tiung Village, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan, in collaboration with GAPOKTAN Hutan Mutiara Sarang Tiung, a community group empowered through the company's community development program. Through this partnership, TIS Energy aims to ensure that conservation activities and the planting of native species are managed sustainably and deliver long-term environmental benefits.
Geo-tagging serves as an important tool for monitoring native Kalimantan plant species that have been planted annually by TIS Energy. By integrating field observations with geographic coordinates, each plant can be accurately documented, enabling more effective monitoring of growth, planting success rates, and plant conditions over time.
The use of geo-tagging creates a more structured and reliable database to support sustainable biodiversity management. In addition to improving data accuracy and monitoring efficiency, this technology enhances transparency in the implementation of the company’s environmental programs and supports data-driven decision-making.
TIS Energy Stakeholder Relations Manager, Andri Simbolon, stated that the company will continue to develop its programs to expand their impact and ensure long-term sustainability.
“We are committed to continuously developing programs that not only support environmental conservation but also deliver sustainable benefits to local communities. Through collaboration with various stakeholders, we hope this initiative will strengthen biodiversity conservation while creating lasting positive impacts,” he said.
Through innovation and collaboration with local communities and stakeholders, TIS Energy continues to contribute to the preservation of Kalimantan’s rich biodiversity while strengthening ecosystem resilience for future generations.
